The Lower Dolpo Circuit is a remote and mystical trek in the western region of Dolpo, where the landscape and people have a Tibetan influence. With altitudes reaching up to 5,190m and an average of 6-7 hours of daily walking, this two-week trek is recommended for experienced hikers. The rewards are extraordinary: the stunning Phoksundo Lake, unique flora and fauna, ancient monasteries, vibrant festivals, challenging mountain passes, and the majestic Kanjirowa Himal peaks. Shey Phoksundo National Park protects much of lower Dolpo, preserving its diverse forests and wildlife, including the elusive snow leopard, Himalayan blue sheep, and Himalayan black bear. The region is also home to isolated Tibetan-influenced villages and the practice of the Bon Po religion, with its distinctive rituals. The remoteness and isolation of this area are attributed to its challenging terrain, with difficult and narrow paths and high mountain passes exceeding 5,000m. However, for those interested in exploring the Buddhist and Bon Po culture, immersing themselves in windswept landscapes adorned with pine forests, and the possibility of encountering rare wildlife and medicinal plants, this trek is truly remarkable.
